Our Sustainability Commitment
At Bear Cave Treasure we care about our customers, and we care about providing high-quality (and really cool) products. We also care a lot about our planet and the impact that our small business could have on it. This is why we are dedicated to our Sustainability Commitment – focusing on driving clean, green and environmentally conscious shopping and shipping.
Our early days…
Bear Cave Treasure started its journey as a small business on Etsy. Fortunately, as Etsy offset 100% of carbon emissions from the packaging and delivery of every order, we didn’t have to worry much about our carbon footprint at the beginning. We had it pretty well covered. We also…
- Sourced our packaging and packing materials from a carbon-neutral company.
- Used packaging made from 80% recycled materials.
However, as Bear Cave Treasure grew, we decided to move away from Etsy and create our own website. But we soon realised that this comes with its own set of environmental concerns such as the size of our carbon footprint and how we could manage it.
So, how do we do it now?
We carried out a lot of research before choosing Shopify to host our website. The main reason we chose Shopify as our host is that their climate commitment is massively impressive. Like, it’s seriously inspiring stuff!

Although set with our sustainable, recyclable packing and a host committed to climate change, we still wanted to do more. We felt like there was more that we could put in place to work towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable way of shopping and shipping. That’s when we discovered Planet.
Planet is a carbon-neutral shipping app created by Shopify. By subscribing to The Millennium Plan, the highest impact plan that Planet has to offer, we have been able to ensure that our website deliveries are completely carbon neutral. Yay!
Planet automatically calculates our shipping emissions (based on shipping distance, package weight and mode of transportation) and ensures high-quality carbon removal to neutralise our shipping footprint. The contributions that we make, via the fees we’re charged for using the app, go a long way in helping to fund cutting-edge carbon removal projects that have the potential to reverse
climate change.
