What is Aegishjalmur?
The Aegishjalmur rune was used to protect warriors and to instil fear in their enemies. The name can be broken down into two parts: 'ægis-' meaning terror or awe, and '-hjálmr' meaning helm or covering.
What does Aegishjalmur symbolise?
The Aegishjalmur is a symbol of protection. The central circle represents the circle of protection within which the wearer is safe. The eight prongs represent protection against evil intent, perceived or otherwise, from all directions. Warriors believed that wearing this symbol would help lead the way to victory against their enemies.
