Helm of Awe and Runes Keyring
Are you looking for a Viking gift for your very own Viking? Or perhaps you just want to treat yourself to a Viking keyring? We at Bear Cave Treasure think that this incredible stainless steel Helm of Awe (Aegishjalmur) Keyring could be for you.
What is Aegishjalmur?
This Viking keyring features the Helm of Awe (Aegishjalmur) symbol. The Aegishjalmur rune was used to protect warriors and to instil fear in their enemies. The name can be broken down into two parts: ‘ægis’ meaning terror or awe, and ‘hjálmr’ meaning helm or covering.
What does Aegishjalmur symbolise?
The Aegishjalmur is a symbol of protection. The central circle represents the circle of protection within which the wearer is safe. The eight prongs represent protection against evil intent, perceived or otherwise, from all directions. Warriors believed that wearing this symbol would help lead the way to victory against their enemies.
What do Viking runes mean?
Viking runes were used as an alphabet during the Viking ages. More broadly though, they were (and still are) believed to hold power, symbolise magical qualities and values and have meaning in divination and oracle reading practices.
